2004 BMW z4 89K miles 2.5 auto I have changed the valve cover gasket and the oil filter basket gasket. The top of the engine is clean now. I still have an oil leak. It is dripping off the little V shaped shield under the engine compartment. It is not a gusher just a enough to stain the garage floor. It drips whether the engine is hot or cold.

On the later Z4's BMW opened the tolerance on the main gear and changed the type of grease used. Looking at it all recently BMW did release an update on how to adjust the engagement of the motor gear onto the column. This will solve both issues with sticking and loose/wandering steering.

It’s the most powerful naturally-aspirated non-M Division inline-six BMW ever made, and in the Z4 Coupe it belts I've researched online and read about two potential causes: 1) Low/old transmission fluid, even though BMW says the ATF is "lifetime". Others have said this may cause shifting issues and recommend changing every 50,000 miles. I read that Valvoline Maxlife ATF is an excellent choice for the Z4 and plan to attempt that change this week. . 200 338 386 225 379 300 51 25 103
