passat b5 automatic transmission problems

I have been informed that my torque converter is disintegrating and that the transmission on these cars is a sealed (disposable) $6000.00 replacement.First, using 92 octane fuel isn't going to cause any problems, as the label on your '99 fuel filler door states 87 regular as the minimum. Next, never rev up an engine when the automatic transmission is malfunctioning. It may suddenly engage and break something or lurch the car dangerously. No ATF leaks. The AT does not engage in any gear (including Tiptronic), rolls like in N. Here are the codes I got with VCDS: 17114 - Gear Ratio Monitoring. P0730 - 003 - Incorrect Gear Ratio. 17195 - Excessive Clutch Slippage. P0811 - 003 - - MIL ON. I have tried to rule out electrical issues: TCM and harness dry. Transmission fluid will drain out of the fill plug if the fluid is cold and the engine not running. So, adding the two amounts together your not far off. As Tom mentioned, follow the link to the fluid replacement. I did this very recently, filter and Valvoline Maxlife fluid from pepboys. under $100.
#1 · May 29, 2018 I'm trying to help out a friend of mine who is looking at buying a used '05 Passat Sedan with 2.8 and automatic transmission and 225,000 miles. What's the general sense of the reliability of these automatics? I know that the autos on the TDI's were very problematic. (That's why my Passat TDI wagon is now a 5-speed.)
